Companies have always been identified as the main contributors to the greenhouse effect and, for this reason, it is essential to be aware of your company’s carbon footprint in order to establish an action plan and carry out specific initiatives by all employees on a day-to-day basis to reduce it.

Here are some of the measures that can be taken to reduce the footprint at the workplace:

• Reinforce the 3 ‘R’s: reuse, reduce and recycle. Reduce the amount of waste: opt for reusable packaging, recycle it or throw it in the appropriate container.
• Print only the necessary: reduce paper consumption and encourage the use of digital devices and cloud storage.
• Reduce air flights (replace them with rail journeys if it is possible) and prioritise videoconferencing. Opt for vehicles that generate fewer emissions in mobility and transport.
• Save energy and increase energy efficiency:
  • Switching to a more efficient way of lighting (opting for eco-friendly light bulbs or LED technology). Consume energy from renewable sources
  • Purchase energy-efficient devices
  • Adjust heating and air-conditioning.
  • Switch off and disconnect devices that are not being used (chargers, screens, TV and computers, microwaves, etc.) as they continue to consume energy.
• Opt for responsible consumption in daily diets, based on local “zero kilometre” products, produced in a sustainable way.
• Save water and use it more efficiently in the office.
• Carry out awareness-raising campaigns for employees
• Invest in environmental projects or buy tonnes of CO2 on the international emissions market.
• Grow plants to neutralise the CO₂ that has already been emitted into the atmosphere through photosynthesis.
